Celebrities

The other day I was in the restroom at a local restaurant and when I came out a guy was waiting to go in. I gave him a quick glance; a simple acknowledgment that a person was there, but I was quick to go to my table. I thought that somehow I knew him; perhaps he was in school with me, went to the same parties, or was a regular at the store that I work at. Apparently I was looking right at Elijah Wood. It's strange how we become so familiar with the people we see on TV that we feel as though we have developed some sort of bond or relationship with them. It really was Elijah Wood, the fact was confirmed many times, and yet I never had the urge to run up to him and beg his autograph. What I found, after some contemplation, that is even more strange is how little I cared about his celebrity status and much I wanted to say "hi" like he was an old friend from years back. Maybe it's because I'm not that great a fan of his, but maybe there really isn't that much to the glamor of celebrities than that fact that he has millions of "old acquaintances".

love your comment about Elijah Wood. You'd find that many of his big fans feel the same way though they might ask for a quick photo if the timing was right. But having run into him several times myself it is like running into an old friend and I have just said Hi...I'm not sure if this is a universal thing or something about his demeanor.

But celebrities are, after all, only people too.

Hi. thanks for the comment. It's amazing that you've run into him several times. This is my first experience with running into a celebrity, at least of his caliber. It led to many conversations at work about how Vermont seems to be a hot spot for harboring Celebs, quitely. Have you looked at my blog before, or were you just passing through? Do you have a blog?

I used to run into, and casually chat with Elijah semi-regularly a few years back. He's such a 'real' person(in that his demeanor does not make you think 'plastic' or 'fake'); he's down to earth, geeky, just as much of a fanboy on bands/etc. that he really likes as any of the rest of us. He's easy to talk to, and really friendly in most cases. I haven't seen him in a while and he tends to have a horrible memory, but I do enjoy our little chats(he talks about some of the most random things!). :)
